Chapter 28

May

May was completely freaked out. She knew she had made a colossal mistake. She should have been listening closer to the conversation. She should never have slipped like that. Jude knew her name, and so did Sniper and Raid. That meant within the hour the entire bike club would know as well. That also meant Tripp would find out, and she knew he was an ex-cop. Her only choice was to backtrack.

“My name is May,” she told Jude, as she tried to steady her shaky voice.

“Nice try, but there’s no way you can deny it now,” Jude softly replied. “Besides, I absolutely love that name. May’s such a plain name, November is completely unique. It suits you.”

May pushed away from the table and hopped to the door.

“Stop fucking walking on that,” Jude growled.

“You need to leave,” she demanded as she leaned against the wall. Her head was pounding, and she knew she was on the verge of a panic attack.

Jude stood and shook his head in denial. “I’m not going anywhere my little rainbow.”

“You need to leave,” she repeated with much more force this time.

“And you need to talk to me,” he pushed as he made his way towards her.

“I don’t need to do anything,” she stubbornly replied as she stared up at him.

“I’m falling in love with you,” Jude told her, as he stared down into her eyes. “I’ve known you such a short time, but I know I belong with you. I can feel you in my heart. I’m not going to lose you.”

May suddenly deflated and slid down the wall to sit on the floor. She didn’t know what to do, so she did the only thing she could at the moment. She pulled her knees up to her chest, buried her face in them, and cried. Not even a second later, Jude was on the floor beside her, and she was pulled into his strong arms. She shoved her face into his neck, clung to his shirt, and cried harder.

It felt like years since she had cried like this. The stress of everything she was dealing with was becoming too much for her. She had finally reached her breaking point, and she was letting the handsome ass see it. He didn’t say a thing, just held her the entire time.

It felt like hours had passed when her tears dried up. May let go of Jude and swiped at them, desperately trying to erase them. Finally, she pulled back and chanced a glance up at him.

“You need to leave,” she stubbornly tried again.

“Can’t,” he smirked. “Ants.”

“You’re making that up,” she accused.

Jude put his hands on his hips. “Did you not see them carry my couch out the front door earlier? Those fuckers are scary big.”

“You’re just trying to get me to smile,” May pouted.

Jude sighed, then placed his arms back around her and pulled her close again. “I am,” he told her. “I don’t like to see you cry, it breaks something inside me.”

May had no reply, and soon he was picking her up and carrying her to the couch.
